Chem-Dry Makes It Easy for People to Start Family-Owned Franchises
Family-Owned Franchises: Meet 3 New Chem-Dry Owners
NASHVILLE, TN - (Marketwired - Dec 10, 2013) - Ted Jastremski was the academic dean for an art institute, working 60-hour weeks and missing out on family time. Dan Lindsay was working similar hours, and working every Saturday, as a car salesman. David Tucker had a different problem: His old job had disappeared, and he was looking for a new way to support his family.
All three found the same solution, opting to start a family-owned franchise, specifically Chem-Dry, North America's largest carpet cleaning company with more than 2,000 franchise units in the United States and Canada.
"The opportunity to generate a lot of revenue was great, and the chance to work my own schedule was also attractive, especially since we have a 5-year-old and one on the way," said Tucker, who owns New Life Chem-Dry, which opened in Missouri this fall. He discovered Chem-Dry after his old job as a software developer disappeared.
For Jastremski, lack of work was not a problem. As academic dean for the Art Institute of Tampa, 60-hour workweeks were normal. He was tired of missing time with his wife and five children, and the opportunity to run a home-based business was alluring. Still, he wasn't sure he could convince his wife it was a good idea to go from college dean to carpet cleaner. Was this business worth the risk? They hired Chem-Dry to clean their home to see if it lived up to its hype. "That did it," he said. Chem-Dry of Tampa opened six months ago.
Lindsay was also tired of 60-hour workweeks. Making it worse, as a car salesman, he worked almost every Saturday. Now that he owns Thousand Island Chem-Dry, which serves Jefferson and Lewis counties in New York, he controls his own schedule and has spent time on Saturdays boating with his 13-year-old son and 11-year-old daughter. He's looking forward to ice fishing with them, too.
